I'm a woman veteran and been around military folks from Regular Army to Special Forces for the past 17 years of my life. I know how guys are in the military and the struggles many of us (men and women) face when we get home, especially relating to love. We struggle to really appreciate loved ones and make huge, epic mistakes when we're faced with the possibility of not coming home. We also hate/love deployments. It's almost easier. Life is hard, but keeping the guy/woman to your left and right is "easy". This book was spectacular! The struggles Liam faced were similar to my own (even as a woman) with the military life, especially in high optempo deployments. Such a great book. I was engulfed within minutes and could hardly put it down! It was a suggestion on Facebook for my reading choices and I read it on a whim... I don't read a WHOLE lot of sexy romance novels (I'm more a Jane Austen type love interest person when I'm not reading YA), but this was fantastic. Thank you, Facebook and Amazon for this suggestion!!!Not overly steamy, but when it was... it was. Very well written and the characters are so relateable... even Emily. She wasn't some sort of "Mary Jane" with superhuman abilities and super sexy (though definitely from the description hot), but more a woman you might find working in even a military contractor capacity. I did not see as many twists and turns in a good book until this one. Brittany did a phenomenal job tricking you into thinking different people were double crossing and determined to get the 10 million payout. I officially have a new favorite and I didn’t think any character could quite top Owen, but he has been dethroned.Liam Evans and Emily Summers were in Vegas to celebrate a double wedding. Little did they know that after a whole bunch of tequila, they themselves would be getting married as well. Liam goes on a mission and is distracted thinking about Emily. During that mission the team rescues an 8-year-old girl named Elaina, but not all things sit well with Liam as they hand her over to protective authorities.Emily heads back to DC where she is an attorney working with the AG on a case so sensitive, she needs a bodyguard for protection. Hoping to secretly get in touch with Liam without everyone knowing what they secretly did. Hoping to get the it-never-happened papers ASAP, she didn’t know that Liam was on his way to her. Showing up at her house and helping to interrupt an assassin attempt, which resulted in Emily killing the gunman.Will Emily and Liam be able to find out who is after Emily and wants her gone? Will they be able to save Elaina before she is out of their reach forever? Will Liam let his walls down for Emily to come in or let her go forever? Will Emily sign the it-never-happened papers and go forward with her life or fight for Liam?I loved this book from beginning to end. I loved all the constant suspense that happened in this book. I loved the sexual chemistry Liam and Emily constantly had. I loved how protective they were of each other. Willing to put both of themselves in risky situations. Elaina is a genius and a very perceptive 8-year-old. Brittany out did herself writing so well. The talk in the rain part had me in happy sad tears. It was written so well and I LOVED that part. In the back of this book you can find a series of songs Brittany advises you to listen to while reading. Holy smoke does it make those scenes come to life even more.I can’t talk enough about how much I liked this book. I mean they make GEOMETRY sound like the sexiest thing on the freaking planet! I HIGHLY recommend reading this book. If you want more reading, you can read Emily’s brother Jake’s book in Surviving the Fall in the Hidden Truth Series.
